A1c Test Kit Instructions for Use
Read
these instructions in their entirety before attempting to collect your A1c
sample |
EXPLANATION OF THE A1c (glycohemoglobin) TEST: |
| The A1c
(glycohemoglobin) test is a non-fasting, finger stick blood test designed to measure the
percent (%) concentration of A1c in individuals diagnosed with or suspected of
having diabetes. The A1c test
provides a reliable method to measure and/or assess the average level of individual
diabetes control over the past 90 - 120 days. This test is not a substitute for daily
(routine) blood glucose monitoring. Test results should be reported to and interpreted by
a health care professional. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
is the method used to analyze the blood sample. The
reagent solution contains 1 ml of EDTA and (.025 mom/l) KCN (blood
preservative). |
SAMPLE
STABILITY: |
Samples are stable for up to
21 days un refrigerated. You should mail your sample as soon as possible or refrigerate until
mailing. The HPLC-IE method detects abnormal
hemoglobin's. |
WARNING: |
Reagent solution can be hazardous to the skin
and eyes. Do not ingest, inhale or allow
reagent solution contained in the sample preparation
vial to make direct contact with the skin or eyes.
If solution gets in eyes, flush with water for fifteen (15) minutes and
contact a physician immediately. Should the
solution get on your skin, wash area with soap and water.
If the area becomes irritated, contact a physician immediately. Discard the
sample preparation vial should it change color. Do NOT
use this kit after its expiration date. |
LIMITATIONS
OF TEST: |
|
This
test may be useful in the differential diagnosis of diabetes (especially as it relates to
elevated mean blood glucose levels). Contact your physician before making any changes to
your diabetes regiment. Do NOT use test to judge
your day-to-day blood glucose control. This
test should NOT replace your daily blood glucose
monitoring. A1c should be used
along with other diagnostic tests and physical examinations as part of a comprehensive
clinical evaluation. If youre red blood
cells are disturbed (abnormal age and/or volume) they may affect your A1c test
results. There are other conditions and possible confounding factors that can effect
A1c test results: Consult with your physician for details. |

Normal A1c range 4.2
- 6.0% % (72-136) mg/dl
DCCT
Mean Plasma Glucose Equation:
%
A1c X 35.6 - 77.3 = MPG mg/dl |
How do I receive my test results?

results should be mailed within 1-2 days after receipt in the testing laboratory. If you
provide a FAX number on your Lab ID Form, it will be faxed back. If you have
