A1c (Mean Blood Glucose) Test Results

The AccuBase A1c Testing procedure employs a multi-method HPLC (IE/BA) analysis to determine A1c.  Samples are analyzed first by HPLC-IE to determine the presence of any abnormal hemoglobin's (such as "S or C) and to ensure the optimal total hemoglobin. Samples are also analyzed by HPLC-BA (an interference-free) method to negate any carbmylated hemoglobin's and/or chemical derivatives that might otherwise alter the actual A1c value.  This method of analysis is considered the most clinically appropriate procedure to use in the measurement of individual glycemic control by the Steering Committee Chairman of the National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program (NGSP).

Assay Range 4.2 % - 6.0%

DCCT

Mean Blood Glucose (MBG) calculated value formula

(% A1c X 31.7 - 66.1) = MBG mg/dl (r) of 0.81

If you wish to calculate your average blood glucose level using mean plasma glucose (MBG):

(% A1c X 35.6 - 77.3) = MBG mg/dl For additional information regarding MBG see

Mean Blood Glucose section on this website.

How to use the confidential Test Results Table:

1.    Refer to your Sample Reference Number located on your YELLOW copy of the Lab Form.

2.    Locate your Specific Reference Number on this table.

3.    Read the % A1c value and calculated Mean Blood Glucose (MBG) values.

4.    Read any comments in the comments column.

Note: Please ensure that your patients fill the capillary tube from

end to end as shown. If the blood does not fill the tube, reinsert

it into the blood drop.  For best results, position the tube downward

          so the blood runs down.
